Creating Educational Content for Social Media

Using Instagram to Influence & Inspire for Character Leadership Education

Join us on this 12-week course designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience to create dynamic and engaging educational content for Instagram, focusing on character and leadership education. In this interactive and hands-on course and guided project, students will learn and use design and video tools to create content that could be featured on their personal Instagram pages, as well as the Lead for Life Instagram page, thereby engaging and impacting the community. By the end of the course, students will have a complete educational series ready for publication. This is your chance to grow as a character leader on social media, sharing the story of your own character leadership journey and harnessing social media’s educational potential to make a difference. Join us on this exciting adventure! 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learn the knowledge and skills to create engaging character and leadership educational content for Instagram.
  2. Understand and apply visual design principles, storytelling techniques, accessibility practices, and community engagement strategies to create effective Instagram content.
  3. Explore using design and video tools (such as Canva, Piktochart, Vyond, and Movavi).
  4. Complete a series of mini projects, culminating in an Instagram educational series that showcases the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the course.

Time Commitment:
Approximately 5-10 hours per week
(includes 1 hour discussion via Zoom or in-person during office hours)

Note: A greater investment of time and effort, even beyond the above minimum hours, will yield a more rewarding learning and work experience!

Upon completion of the course and project work, students may submit their work to apply for the HKU Credit for Out-of-classroom Learning Experience. This allows students to receive two academic credits to be reflected on their HKU transcript and Academic Attainment Profile (these credits do not count towards GPA or graduation requirements).
